Core Purpose

  • Work as part of small inspection teams supporting statutory inspection activities across offshore and onshore wind projects.
  • This role is designed as an entry point into the statutory inspection profession, providing structured training and practical experience while working alongside experienced inspectors and team leads.
  • Assist with the safe delivery of statutory inspections in line with relevant legislation, company procedures and client requirements.
  • The trainee will gradually develop the knowledge and technical competence required to carry out statutory inspections and maintenance activities under supervision.
  • Projects are primarily located within offshore wind environments across the UK, Europe and internationally. Work may involve offshore deployment or onshore roles supporting offshore operations.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities 

General:

  • Support inspection teams during statutory inspection projects.
  • Assist with preparation of tools, equipment and documentation.
  • Support daily reporting and inspection checklists.
  • Follow OEG Renewables and client safe systems of work.
  • Participate in training and competency development activities.
  • Maintain company equipment and ensure it is used correctly.

Inspection:

Assist with statutory inspections under supervision including:

  • Thorough examinations in line with local legislation such as LOLER and PUWER.
  • Fire extinguisher inspections.
  • TMSE inspections.
  • PFPE inspections.
  • Loose lifting equipment inspections.
  • Assist with inspection of hydraulic systems including PRVs and accumulators.
  • Assist with inspection and load testing of nacelle cranes.
  • Assist with inspection and load testing of davit cranes.
  • Assist with inspection and load testing of riding lifts.

Maintenance:

  • Assist technicians with servicing and maintenance of lifting equipment and service lifts.
  • Support troubleshooting and reporting of equipment faults.
  • Assist with component replacements such as crane wires and mechanical components.

Health and Safety:

  • Always follow OEG Renewables and client safety procedures.
  • Promote a safe culture on site.
  • Report hazards, unsafe acts and near misses.
  • Participate in toolbox talks and safety briefings.
  • Use correct PPE and follow site rules.
  • Support the development of a strong safety culture.

Quality Control:

  • Assist with checking project reports and documentation.
  • Support accurate completion of inspection records.
  • Report any nonconformities identified during inspections.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of company processes.

Environmental:

  • Dispose of waste in accordance with waste management procedures.
  • Support environmentally responsible working practices.

QHSE Responsibilities 

To have a general understanding of the areas of our QHSE Management System and OEG’s QHSE aims and objectives that are relevant to the role.

Comply with the requirements of OEG Energy Group Policies and the responsibilities within the wider QHSE Management System.

Skills and Experience

Qualifications

  • Full clean driving license.
  • Electrical, mechanical, or marine engineering qualifications such as: SVQ / NVQ Level 3, HNC / HND Engineering Degree, City & Guilds technical qualification OR Hands on experience within an engineering industry environment.
  • Four National 5 qualifications at grade C or above including Maths and English.
  • Alternatively: NC Qualification in an engineering discipline, pre-apprenticeship or foundation apprenticeship in engineering.
  • Relevant vocational training such as apprenticeship in mechanical/electrical discipline.
  • LEEA Foundation or willingness to work towards LEEA General qualification.
